National Parks Lifetime Pass for Seniors Going Up Eight-fold Monday Night

National Parks Lifetime Pass for Seniors Going Up Eight-fold Monday Night

Since 1994, those aged 62+ have been able to get a Lifetime Pass to our beautiful National Parks for only $10.  But at midnight on Monday the fee increases to $80!  Seniors need to move fast to get their Lifetime Pass for the $10 rate.  If the pass is purchased in person there is no additional fee, but if it is purchased online or via mail there is a $10 processing fee.  The surge in demand has lengthened the delivery time to two months.  Due to the backlog, most of the park sites will accept the order confirmation from an online sale as ‘proof of purchase.’  Passes can be purchased at

The pass admits the pass holder and three adults in a non-commercial vehicle into each park. The pass covers entrance and, at many sites, standard amenity (day-use) recreation fees and discounts on some expanded amenity recreation fees (such as camping, swimming, boat launching, guided tours).   It provides access to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by six federal agencies:

  • National Park Service
  • US Fish & Wildlife Service
  • Bureau of Land Management
  • Bureau of Reclamation
  • US Forest Service
  • US Army Corps of Engineers

If a pass is lost or stolen, the person must purchase a new one at the new rate, so they should be kept in a safe place.

All of the funds collected from the Senior Pass go to the National Park Foundation Endowment and the National Park Centennial Challenge Fund (authorized by the Centennial Legislation).

The Lifetime Pass is a wonderful deal – and a great gift for a family member, friend or client.  Get it now.
